The 2025 Chungbuk World Conference on Humanities and Social Sciences was held with the purpose of strengthening global research networks and advancing convergence-oriented research capacity. The conference was jointly organized by research institutes affiliated with the Korean Council of Humanities and Social Institutes, research units under the National Research Foundation of Korea, the National Research Council for Economics, Humanities and Social Sciences, as well as regional science and technology institutions engaged in governance-building in Chungbuk Province.
By fostering collaboration with leading international scholars, the conference aimed to present forward-looking visions and values to the global community while enhancing interdisciplinary research capacity. In particular, the Korea Education and Research Information Service (KERIS) introduced interactive sessions on its Education Data Platform and the Research Information Sharing Service (RISS), highlighting the growing importance of education informatization in the AI and digital era.
The conference became a rich forum for policy dialogue and scholarly exchange, addressing the civilizational crises of our time—including demographic decline, aging society, regional depopulation, and multicultural transformation. As part of a long-term megaproject launched in 2022 by the Korean Council of Humanities and Social Institutes, the event sought to propose concrete policy implementations for overcoming these challenges.

Main Theme
“The Humanities and Social Sciences in the Age of AI: Convergence with Science and Technology” The program highlighted interdisciplinary exchanges and outstanding research outcomes in the humanities, social sciences, science and technology, and arts and physical education.

Key Objectives
1. To explore the roles and challenges of the humanities, social sciences, and science & technology in the AI era. 2. To establish a “glocal” perspective through international research networks. 3. To share and disseminate research outcomes in collaboration with governance-building institutions in Chungbuk Province.

Outcomes
The conference particularly emphasized expanding understanding of regional values and cultural diversity, while broadening international engagement through global researcher presentation sessions. By reflecting on the future-oriented significance of these exchanges, the conference laid the foundation for transdisciplinary research frameworks and policy strategies to overcome societal megacrises.
