Regulations on the Operation of the Convergence Education Research Institute, Korea National University of Education

Article 1 (Purpose)

The purpose of these Regulations is to prescribe matters concerning the organization and operation of the Convergence Education Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as the “Institute”) pursuant to Article 12 of the Regulations on the Korea National University of Education Research Institute.



Article 2 (Purpose of Establishment)

The Institute was established to propose a new paradigm for teacher education and to nurture pre-service teachers with practical competencies in order to foster convergence-type talents required by future society. To this end, the Institute aims to promote convergence education and strengthen research capacity in the humanities and social sciences.



Article 3 (Projects)

The Institute shall carry out the following projects:

  • 1. Academic research in all areas including the development of convergence education theories that foster creativity, development of educational programs, and related teacher education.
  • 2. Organization of academic research meetings, research presentations, and similar events.
  • 3. Securing and conducting various research projects.
  • 4. Other projects related to the Institute.



Article 4 (Organization and Functions)
  • 1. The Institute shall have a Director, who shall be appointed by the President upon the recommendation of the Director of the Education Research Institute from among full-time faculty members.
  • 2. The Director shall represent the Institute, oversee its affairs, and supervise and direct its staff.
  • 3. For the purposes of carrying out the projects described in Article 3, the Institute may establish the following divisions: Academic Research Division, Research Dissemination Division, and Convergence Collaboration Division.
  • 4. The Academic Research Division shall be responsible for developing convergence education theories, designing convergence curricula, and planning educational programs.
  • 5. The Research Dissemination Division shall be responsible for publishing academic journals and other publications based on research outcomes, as well as establishing strategies for managing and disseminating such outcomes.
  • 6. The Convergence Collaboration Division shall be responsible for planning and operating academic events and establishing academic exchanges and networks with domestic and international related institutions.
  • 7. The head of each division shall be appointed by the Director from among full-time faculty members.



Article 5 (Researchers)
  • 1. The Institute may have the following positions: Professor Researcher, Research Professor, Senior Research Fellow, Full-time Research Fellow, Special Research Fellow, Resident Researcher, Visiting Research Fellow, Research Assistant, and Commissioned Research Fellow.
  • 2. A Professor Researcher shall be appointed by the Director from among faculty members at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher at the University.
  • 3. A Research Professor shall be a person holding a doctoral degree and qualified as an Assistant Professor or higher, appointed by the President in accordance with the Regulations on Adjunct Faculty, etc. of the Korea National University of Education.
  • 4. A Senior Research Fellow shall be appointed by the Director from among Full-time Research Fellows with a certain level of experience.
  • 5. A Full-time Research Fellow shall be a person holding a doctoral degree, appointed by the Director from among internal or external candidates.
  • 6. A Special Research Fellow shall be a person qualified as an Assistant Professor or higher, appointed by the Director from among external candidates.
  • 7. A Resident Researcher shall be a person holding a master’s degree or higher, appointed by the Director from among internal or external candidates.
  • 8. A Visiting Research Fellow shall be an expert in a field related to the duties of the Institute, appointed by the Director when necessary for specific research.
  • 9. A Research Assistant shall be a student enrolled in a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral program, appointed by the Director.
  • 10. A Commissioned Research Fellow shall be a person employed at an external research institute or industrial organization, appointed by the Director.



Article 6 (Administrative Staff)
  • 1. The Institute may have a Senior Administrative Officer and Administrative Officers.
  • 2. A Senior Administrative Officer shall be appointed by the Director from among Administrative Officers holding at least a bachelor’s degree and possessing a certain level of experience.
  • 3. Administrative Officers shall be administrative staff members in charge of managing all administrative affairs related to the Institute’s projects, appointed by the Director.



Article 7 (Steering Committee)
  • 1. The Institute may establish a Steering Committee (hereinafter referred to as the “Committee”) to deliberate on important matters concerning the operation of the Institute.
  • 2. The Committee shall consist of not fewer than five (5) and not more than ten (10) members, including the Chairperson, who shall be the Director.
  • 3. Committee members shall be appointed by the Director and shall serve a two-year term, renewable upon reappointment.
  • 4. The Committee shall deliberate on the following matters:

    1) Basic organization, operational structure, and long-term development plans of the Institute.
    2) Enactment, amendment, and repeal of the Institute’s Operational Regulations.
    3) Fundraising and financial management of the Institute.
    4) Budgeting and settlement of accounts.
    5) Development, selection, and evaluation of research projects.
    6) Other important matters related to research and operations.

  • 5. Committee meetings shall be convened with the attendance of a majority of its members and resolutions shall be adopted by a majority of those present. Meetings may be conducted in-person, virtually, or in writing.



Article 8 (Finance)

The finances of the Institute shall be covered by various research grants and other sources of income.



Article 9 (Detailed Operational Matters)

Detailed matters necessary for the implementation of these Regulations may be determined through deliberation by the Committee.



Addenda

(August 4, 2015)
These Regulations shall enter into force as of the date of promulgation.

 

(October 1, 2019)
These Regulations shall enter into force as of the date of promulgation.

 

(August 4, 2025)

  • 1. (Effective Date) These Regulations shall enter into force as of the date of promulgation.
  • 2. (Transitional Measures for Administrative Staff) Any service record of administrative employees prior to the enforcement of these Regulations shall be recognized as administrative staff service experience under these Regulations.
  • 3. (Transitional Measures for Researchers) The amended provisions of Article 5(5) shall apply to the appointment of researchers made after the enforcement of these Regulations.
