Building a platform to revitalize convergence education in response to changes in the education ecosystem
The Institute for Convergence Education at Hankuk University of Education has been selected for the '2019 Humanities and Social Research Support Project' by the National Research Foundation of Korea. The main content of the project is to remove obstacles that prevent existing convergence education programs from settling in school education and to build a platform for convergence education to be activated in the education ecosystem. This is a very valuable research in that it creates a place for sharing and communication, which is emphasized in today's school scene, and through this, activates convergence education to foster future talents.
To analyze and systematize previous research on convergence education programs developed so far, conduct research on overseas convergence education programs to explore ways to apply them in Korea, and develop teaching methods and evaluation methods suitable for the Korean elementary and secondary school education scene. In addition, to build a convergence education platform for teachers, pre-service teachers, professors of education and history, and parents by developing the capacity of elementary and secondary teachers to apply convergence education to the school scene, establishing cooperation methods with related parties, and linking these methods to pre-service teacher education.
The three-year research in the first phase is developmental research, and the three-year research in the second phase is related to the diffusion of achievements.
- In the first year of Phase 1, we will analyze the previous research on various convergence education programs developed so far and systematically classify them by school level, and attempt to reorganize them considering goals, contents, organization, and evaluation.
- In the second year of Phase 1, we will conduct research on successful convergence education programs abroad and compare and analyze them with Korean school culture to reorganize them in a form suitable for Korea.
- In the third year of Phase 1, we will develop a teaching method for convergence education that is suitable for Korean elementary and secondary schools, so that numerous convergence education programs can be properly delivered to students and their educational effects can be confirmed.
- In the first year of Phase 2, we will develop and operate elementary and secondary teacher training programs to develop the capacity of teachers to apply convergence education to school sites, and provide an environment that facilitates educational implementation by establishing cooperation with related organizations such as local education departments, institutions, and companies.
- In the second year of Phase 2, the program will establish a collaborative plan to apply convergence education to the first and second year curriculum for pre-service teacher education and analyze the educational effects.
- In the third year of Phase 2, we will build a convergence education platform for teachers, pre-service teachers, professors of education and history, and parents, laying the foundation for the settlement and spread of convergence education in Korea.
